Georgia State Flower: Cherokee Rose
In 1916, with the support of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs, the Cherokee rose was named the state floral emblem. The name "Cherokee Rose" is a local designation derived from the Cherokee Indians who widely distributed the plant.

Georgia State Flag
The current Georgia flag was adopted on May 8, 2003. On March 2, 2004, the people of Georgia voted 3-1 to keep the 2003 Perdue flag flying over Georgia.

Georgia State Bird: Brown Thrasher
In 1928, the school children of Georgia selected the brown thrasher as the state bird. On April 6, 1935, the brown thrasher was declared the state bird of Georgia by proclamation of Governor Eugene Talmadge.

Georgia State Seal
The Seal of Georgia was originally adpoted in 1798 as part of the State Constitution. In 1914, the legislature decided that 1776, representing the Declaration of Independence, was more appropriate than the 1799 date that formerly displayed on the seal.
