New York adopted the rose in any color or combination of colors as the official state flower on April 20, 1955.

The bluebird was adopted by New York legislation as the official state bird on May 18, 1970.

The Great Seal of New York was first established in 1777. In 1778 a second form was completed that included a full coat of arms. In 1882 a law was adopted describing the seal as designed in 1778.

Adopted in 1975, the Speckled Trout is the official freshwater fish of New York.

Released on January 2, 2001, the New York quarter features the Statue of Liberty, the state outline, the words "Gateway to Freedom", and 11 stars representing the number of states when it entered the union.
