Virginia State Flower: American Dogwood
The American Dogwood was adopted by the Commonwealth of Virginia as the official state flower on March 6, 1918.

The current version of the Virginia flag was adopted at the beginning of the American Civil War in 1861.

Virginia State Bird: Northern Cardinal
The northern cardinal was adopted as the official state bird of the Commonwealth of Virginia on January 25, 1950.

Virginia State Seal
The Virginia Great Seal was approved at Virginia's 1776 Constitutional Convention. In 1930 another committee was charged with standardizing the seal's design, they basically adopted the 1776 seal as the standard. In 1949, Virginia's Art Commission defined the official color scheme for the seal.
